All kinds of music is in the spotlight this week as the sheer diversity of Dayton’s Porchfest leads the way along with funk and R&B at Levitt Pavilion, country at RiverScape MetroPark and rock at Fraze Pavilion. You can also enjoy community events including the return of a popular celebration of beer and airplanes. More than 50 porches in Dayton’s St. Anne’s Hill neighborhood will deliver the sounds of blues, bluegrass, classical, country, indie, jazz and more Saturday. This free music festival will particularly feature 26 acts making their Porchfest debuts. Notable acts overall include Serin Oh, crabswithoutlegs, Harpoetic, Whiskey for Kids, Dayton Salsa Project and Heather Redman & The Reputation. Dayton’s Porchfest, presented each August since 2017, is among the more than 200 Porchfests that will take place throughout the U.S. and Canada. 👨👩👧👦 Family things to do Back to School Bash: Springboro celebrates back to school spirit with this free event happening before Springboro High School's first varsity football game of the season. Confetti Concert Finale featuring The Karate Girls Band: West Carrollton offers a free, fun evening for all ages tonight filled with music, food trucks, activities for kids and lots of confetti. The Karate Girls Band are the featured act. Food trucks expected to participate include El Meson, Lumpia Queen, Squeaky Wheels, Claybourne Grille, Fresh Off the Hook, Billie Gold Bubble Tea and Schmidt’s Sausage Truck. Jefferson Twp. Day: This annual Jefferson Township celebration happening Saturday at Judge Arthur O. Fisher Park includes live music, an apple pie contest, a barbecue cookoff, battle of the bands and more. 💘 Date night picks “Group Chat” at The NEON: Locally-based Campfire Films debuts Sept. 2 at The NEON with the pilot episode of a new series about a close-knit group of friends whose lives look very different as thirtysomethings. “Group Chat,” filmed in Dayton with regional talent, is described as “a love letter to nostalgic sitcoms like ‘Friends’ and ‘How I Met Your Mother,’ while also drawing inspiration from newer shows like ‘Nobody Wants This.’” Hops in the Hangar: Middletown Regional Airport hosts this fundraiser Saturday featuring craft beers, food trucks, an airshow and historic planes. Expect more than 90 beers from 30 breweries along with eight food trucks and additional vendors. New breweries include BC’s Brewing Company, Stevens Point Brewery and Depot Brewing Company. That Arena Rock Show: Rock anthems from artists like Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Bon Jovi and Guns N Roses are the top draw Friday at Fraze Pavilion as this tribute band salutes rock and roll from the ’70s and ‘80s. The Levert Experience: It’s all about soulful R&B tonight at Levitt Pavilion. Marc Gordon, original founding member of Levert, Joe Little, lead singer of The Rude Boys, and Dave Tolliver from Men At Large, will perform hits from Levert (“Casanova”), The Rude Boys (“Written All Over Your Face”) and Men At Large (“So Alone”). 😊 Three for free Kenny Chesney Tribute with The Poets & Pirates: RiverScape MetroPark will host this entertaining Kenny Chesney tribute band Friday. The RiverScape Summer Music Series continues through Sept. 4. Ohio Valley Orchid Fest: This sixth annual festival happening Saturday and Sunday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Kettering features flower displays, orchid-themed activities for kids, various vendors and an education in orchid growing. The Original Slave featuring Thomas Lockett and Floyd Miller: Get your groove on as Dayton funk legends The Original Slave, which stormed onto the scene with their 1977 debut single “Slide,” perform Saturday at Levitt Pavilion. |
